I got 2 stone chips on my b pillars and now I just see them...
What paint should I use to get rid of them? I don't want to try 27 kinds of black paint LOL
Thank you guys!

I would imagine the dealer has a paint code for you to use if you ask them.
Off the top of my head, I would say it's a "satin black" or semi-gloss black. Sometimes you even see it called chassis black. The main thing is that it's not a full gloss or a flat. It's in the middle.

Thanks, never thought about asking my dealer for that paint, it's a very good idea :)

I'm sure permanent-marker-black would work too.

It's probably harder than you think to match that paint.
When my Mazda3 was in a major accident the bodyshop (an incredibly good one that does work on exotics and magazine cars) could match the body-paint perfectly (to this day I can't find the blend lines), but he couldn't get that black vinyl to be exactly the same although it does take a careful eye to notice the difference.

I'll at least do my best so it doesn't turn pink or something like that... I understand that it wont be perfect but it should hide the silver under it so it takes a closer look to see the default.
Thanks for the help all!

Just take note that you may et a funny look when asking for a paint code for that B-pillar. After I read sigma's reply, I went and looked and sure enough, the B-pillars are NOT painted but have a vinyl coating. I suppose the best way would be to ask the dealer what (if any) touch-up paint they would reccomend to "patch" the vinyl.
I wonder if some black electrical tape would work? I think I'd rather have a dob of paint than a strip of vinyl tape showing.
Perhaps those elastometric bumper paints would work?
Those touch-up kits for Vinyl furniture, maybe?
Oh, well...

I have some chips, it looks like someone tried to touch it up but did a shit job. They used gloss paint first of all when it should be flat.
I say just get some flat black and blend it.
i have actually heard of new vinyl coating for the b-pillars in different colors that you can buy in stores. I will have to search and see if what i heard was true, but that would be an option

It does look like vinyl and sorry I haven't got a chance to check with my dealer.
I might just get some nice Mazda6Tech stickers in real small format to patch it? :)
It would be very cool gcubed if you can find that info!
That would solve my little problem and I'm pretty sure i'm not alone trying to solve that.

I was told by an employee at autozone to go to JoAnn fabrics and get a vinyl repair kit, he says they're patches and that they should blend perfectly. I'll check it out and let you guys know.

Thank you for the follow up! Let us know if it works and best, can you take picture of it?
Thank you very much!

Yeah I'll get pics... only problem was JoAnn Fabrics doesn't have a vinyl repair kit and autozone did... lol stupid retailers.

Mission: failure :( sorry guys. Just the way they make you put it on the pillar doesn't work without leaving a mess.
However, when playing with it, I noticed its just a piece of black vinly stuck onto the metal. All you'd really need to do is remove part of the window molding and peel it off. Then get a new sheet, put it over it then cut to size.
Now to find where I can find black vinyl with sticky backing...

One place to try would be shops catering to motorcycle graphics. They can often supply sheets and/or rolls of vinyl in a variety of colours and finishes - even carbon fibre look if so inclined.
When I had my old 325ic I was looking into it to cover the chrome around the windshield. Try a search on the web - there was a place (name escapes me) that sold in different sized sheets. I'll check at home tonight to see if I saved the link.

Ok, the only thing close to vinyl stripping that I've found (after numerous google searches) is this stuff:
http://www.edecals.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=edecals&Product_Code=SUP102
Unfortunately, it's 2.1mm thick, and I did a check on my door vinyl and it seems thinner. I'm not sure it'll matter that much.
I'm waiting on a reply to an email from another person and I'll let you know what's going on. I may just buy the 2.1mm thick vinyl and see if you can notice it alot.

The website for the vinyl I was looking at is: www.tapeworks.com
I haven't checked the details, but it might be too thick as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong but 2.1 mil think is very very thin. I'm pretty sure mil doesn't mean mm. We have ordered some decals at work using a 3 mil thick protection on them and the complete decal isn't 1 mm thick...

WiDeFiRe is right in saying 2.1 mil is very very thin. One mil is 1/1000 inch, so 2.1 mil would be only 0.053 mm or 0.0021inches. This should definitely work for you - just be careful not to stretch or deform it when applying.

Lol oh ok, I thought it was a typo, I've never seen the unit mil :P
Well I'll order some and write up a how-to then I guess. It's cheap enough!

Ok bad news, ordered the vinyl, it got here and everything. Except: its gloss black, not flat black. So, rather than find out where to get flat black vinyl (without asking the dealer for a $50 strip of vinyl), and rather than replacing it all with gloss black, I think I'm just gonna remove it all. Not sure yet, I may look around a bit more or ask the place I bought it from if they have any.
Or, if you think it'd be worthwhile, get the simulated carbon fiber and replace all b-pillars.

That's what I'm thinking I'll do but I might get the real carbon fiber stuff instead of just the vinyl. I'm currently thinking to keep my car for a while instead of trade it in for a RX-8 in a year or so.
Still sad it wasn't flat black... Thank for you help anyway! :)

Do you know where to get real carbon fiber ones yet?
I could do the carbon fiber as a cheap solution until then. I dunno if I wanna take them all off, because I don't know if the white paint on the pillars will go well when I tint the windows.
