And it was awesome! So much better than the track and I didn't even race ;) There were quite a few Vettes that ran, including a Mallet 435, which was badass. An RX7 with a 5.0, a few AE-86 Corollas and another RX7 that flipped into the fence :P Anyways, I'm definitely participating in the next one this coming Sunday, bald tires, no performance suspension and all :P What wheel/tire combo do you guys run for auto-x? I'm probably going to buy Rota Battles in 17x7 and run Falken Azenis Sport 225x45x17 tires.

Pics? That sucks man... I hate seeing bad things happen to good cars (especially when the owner actually drives it).

First things first. Remember. Pics. Pics. Pics. Pics.

You can run up to a 7.5" wide tire in STS. I'd try to do that. Wider is going to be better here. I went with 16x8's, which unfortunately put me in STX- but they handle great. Unfortunately I do not know how much of the improvement is due just to wheel width as the stock tires won't even stretch to an 8" wide rim. Smaller wheel diameters are also cheaper to tire (look at the pricing), which is important if you're going through tires quickly.
Any wide, light tire is popular. I see Kosei's and Rota's a lot. If they're track-only wheels, go on eBay and shop used- it doesn't matter if they have some scratches. (For example, I got my RX-7 wheels for $180 + $60 shipping, compared to ~$800 EACH from the dealer.) Put the money you save into your tire budget. :)
Those Falken tires are absolutely the best tires short of racing slicks, only they last longer and are cheaper. Go for it. :)
I'm going to put Azenis Sport 215/45/16's on my car, I think. Yeah, they're gonna be tiny and look goofy, but they should be hella fast too. At least I'm hoping. I don't want to move into racing slicks until I learn how to drive well enough to compete. I figure that'll be another year or two.
Glad you had fun... congrats. You've caught the bug.

I'm going to be running 17x8 SSR Comp Silver's, with 225/45/17 Toyo T1-S rubber.
I ran stock tires/mich's last season, and ended up with 225/45/17 Falken ZIEX-512 sports on the last Autox of the year.
I'm going with the Toyo T1-S instead of the Falken Azenies Sports due to wet weather performance. The falken's are unbelievable tires...they make sweet love to the road and don't let go...but their wet performance isn't the greatest (as their close to slicks), and I'm going to be running the Toyo's on the street as well as the autox. (It rains alot in MD, so I wanna make sure I have excellent wet weather performance)
If you were running two sets of tires, I'd get falken sports, or some sort of racing compound tire, like a Toyo RA-1 for the autoX set.
Glad you caught the bug...just watch the bank account, it'll start draining fast :).

Yeah, don't have any pics as going was a spur of the moment thing. I will however, bring the camera and MiniDV to the next event ;) Indeed, I have caught the bug :D As for tires, I've read about the Azenis Sports not being very good wet-traction tires but I plan on buying a set of 18" wheels for the street so I'll probably get T1-Ss for those. What springs do you guys run? I think I'm going to try out the H&Rs...

I'm running a stock suspension right now. Stretch, SC3, and Necessity are running ebiachs.
I'm waiting for more suspension components to become available before I make purchases. There are quite a few parts in the works currently, and I'd really like to get a combination of shock/spring or coilover, if I'm going to be modifying my suspension system.

I'm running on kosei k1-s with toyo t1-s for rubber. 17x7.
I'd prefer a 17.7.5 tire, but these were decently priced and lightweight so they were hard to turn down.
My springs are eibach. I was very close to installing the racing beat sway set, but have decided to hold back until I start the season. I havn't tested my current setup on the track yet and want to see how it feels and handles before I make more changes.
Congrats and welcome (pics!!!).
