ok, so i got a set of mx-3 seats at the junkyard the other day,and have been reading up on how to best install them. i'm a bit confused about one thing though....should i use the mx-s seat rails, or the protege seat rails? i though i was supposed to use the protege ones, but i'm reading that that will cause a 'gangsta' lean.....is that correct? and can i use the seat belt latch already attached to the mx-3 seats, or do i have to swap them for the protege ones? will the sensor on the mx-3 seatbelt plug into the protege wiring harness?
on 1st gens you won't get a lean but you will sit quite a bit lower on the MX3 rails than the LX rails.
The belt clips were different than my Escort ones so I had to reuse the escort ones but it might be different from the protege still. If in doubt use your own seatbelt clips.

yes to all :D
use everything from the MX3 seat. Just bolt it in. Rails, belt latch and yes it will plug into the Protege connector for the sensor.
As Lex said, you'll sit about 3" lower. Your a tall guy, so it should work out perfect...it did for me. Adds some nice extra helmet headroom. Mind you it'll take some getting used to.

cool, thanks for the replys. i think i might fab up some spacers to rise the seat about an inch or so. i'll give it a couple of weeks at the 'stock' lowered height, and see how i feel about raising it.

When I had my MX-3 seats in my 1st gen I used all the MX-3 stuff but I made spacers to go between the rails and the seat , I got grade 8 metric bolts that would fit with the spacers to correct the lower seat hight

one of my patrons at my bar is a metal worker. i already talked to him about fabing up something nice and sturdy. all i have to do is give him measurements. more than likely, i'll raise it up an inch or an ince and a half. i'll check and see when the seats are actually in the car.

I remember a while back reading that Mazkid swapped all the cushions onto the LX seat frame, which gave more support but kept the same ride height and kept the adjustability of the LX seat. You might look into that, it's on CP somewhere.
I personally liked the seats on MX3 rails... I'm 5'11" or so, and even though they dropped a couple of inches it was comfortable, and the handling was awesome down there.
