Probably the best tip I've ever heard is "Be aware of other wireless networks." I'd suggest getting a program that can scan for any networks in range and lists the channels they use, and set your network's channel to one that doesn't interfere with the other networks (1, 6, and 11 for 802.11g). Not quite such a problem with 802.11n in the 5 GHz radio band. A good program I've found for just this purpose is Netstumbler. Casey

at a MINIMUM, at least put a password on your network that is NOT the default one...

my cousin has an older version of that... can't say I'm impressed (it had routing issues with *advanced* workstation setups, so its a rarely encountered for most people)... I'd get a netgear or linksys over it
the best security is not have wireless at all, but given that its impractical these days for damn near everyone, you'd want to keep your SSID unbroadcasted and to use WPA2
tweaking your tranceiver level (only doable with 3rd party firmwares... not all routers are hackable) to be only useful in your house helps too... that alleviates pesky neighbors stealing your intarwebs :)

Yea as of right now, It is WPA2 protected, my SSID is broadcasting right now.
Im not Running anything advanced, Just Running my gf's laptop(wireless), and my 360(wired) right now.. I may have found my main problem though..Wireless modems arent the best.lol..
I'll try to play with the location a bit. Everything is within close range of eachother.
I want to get everything going good before i add the desktop
But i have no complaints about the reach of the wireless though..
And im also using "network magic" as the router came with a 30day free trial.

there's good and bad wireless cards... my ancient agere orinoco 802.11b card beats many of the cards today... it has stupid range and has been fully hacked for new unsupported firmware and japan channel set support :D my broadcom based minipci 802.11g cards have been pretty good also... my main laptop has an atheros 5001 chip card (it came with an intel piece of shit that sucked at receiving, speeds, and US only channel sets) and it has been great also
all of my wlan cards have been carefully chosen to be wardriving capable... thus incredible reliability, range, and global use (all use japan channel sets) :D
my own network does not broadcast the SSID... it runs WPA2 and also illegally on channel 13 (european channel) so no normal person can see it
